This issue we have chosen to highlight Edmonton’s Chris McRae.
Chris McRae, PMAFA
Chris McRae became a professional Astrologer in 1971, and received her professional accreditation from the American Federation of Astrologers in 1974.
For many years, Chris has lectured widely in many major cities in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and has appeared numerously on major convention faculties.
In 1974 Chris was one of the speakers at the first national conference of the now defunct Canadian Independent Astrologers’ Order in Toronto. She inspired people with a talk on the Martin Hartwell Plane Crash where she showed the validity of Placidus Houses in extremely northern latitudes.
In 1982 she received the FCA (Fraternity for Canadian Astrologers) Astrological Hall of Fame Uranus award for “Innovative Ideas and Outreach Nationally and Internationally.
From 1973 to 1984 she taught a six-semester course at Grant MacEwan College, which was the first college in North America to include Astrology in its Adult Extension Department. Altogether she has been teaching for 24 years. As a result of teaching, she founded and was President several times of the Edmonton Astrological Society. Because of her consistent teaching there is a large community of well informed astrologers and students in Edmonton. Edmonton has become one of the special astrologically active cities in Canada. Chris is a past member of the Board of Directors for the AFA (American Federation of Astrology). She is currently on the Advisory Board for ProSig, a world organization addressing the needs of the growing body of professional astrologers.
For many years Chris was a favourite television and radio interviewee and open line guest, presenting the academic and psychological advantages of Astrology.
Her first book: “The Geodetic World Map”, was published in 1988 by the American Federation of Astrologers. This book deals primarily with deriving house cusps for mundane and personal relocation. She is also a contributing author in the book entitled “Astrology of the Macrocosm”, published by Llewellyn in 1990. From 1989 to 1995 she wrote a syndicated daily astrological column and is now writing her next book which is the result of over 20 years research.
Additionally, for many years Chris was involved in the television and motion picture industry as a script writer, TV personality hosting her own daily program, then as a make-up and special effects artist for many internationally syndicated productions.
Chris is a brilliant person with an outstandingly positive manner. She has been and still is a major influence in the development of astrology in Canada and in the United States. If you ever get the chance to hear her speak, don’t miss it!
